United Services hosts a variety of fundraising and community events throughout the year.  Come out and enjoy a good time with friends while supporting a good cause for your community!  And, we are always grateful for volunteers, product donations and the support of local businesses and organizations in the form of sponorships to help support our efforts.  Check out our annual events below, but be sure to follow our facebook page for announcements of other fun happenings!

Particle Accelerator: A Day of Music & Hope

 June 10, 2017 | Main Street, Putnam

This free, family-friendly music and art festival is held in memory of local musician Jack Young, Jr. and to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention and local mental health programs. The event features a lively and diverse line-up of popular local and regional bands and performers (past participants have including Seed, Santa Mamba and Kala Farnham). Along with the music, check out art displays and enjoy children’s activities and booths from local nonprofit community organizations. Particle Accelerator is organized by the family and friends of Jack Young, Jr., with proceeds supporting mental health programs at United Services. 2017 marks the 11th Annual Particle Accelerator.

The Big Five Charity Motorcycle Ride

June 25, 2017 | Plainfield VFW 5446, 7 Windsor Ave., Plainfield

The 5th Annual The Big Five Charity Motorcycle Ride will be held on June 25, 2017 at the Plainfield VFW Post 5446. The Big Five, established in 2012, is committed to giving back to our local community by organizing an annual motorcycle ride to benefit local domestic violence programs. This year, The Big Five is partnering with United Services to raise awareness and funds for United Services Domestic Violence Program. Summerfest

August 2017 | The Inn at Woodstock Hill

The Inn at Woodstock Hill hosted its 12th annual Summer Fest on Saturday, August 13th from 6 to 9 p.m.  The event featured a lobster dinner and a varied and delicious buffet and $15 from each ticket sale will be donated to children’s treatment and supportive programs at the United Services Center for Autism.

Each guest will receive one 1 1/4 pound lobster. The buffet includes herb roasted chicken, chowder, pulled pork, blackened catfish, seafood jambalaya, BBQ brisket, corn, garlic mashed potatoes and more. Musical entertainment will be provided by Bruce John.

Tickets are $60 each with advanced reservation. Tickets sold less than 3 days before the event are $70.

Sunflowers for Kids

Sunday, September 3, 2017 | Lapsley Orchard

Come to Lapsley Orchard in Pomfret to enjoy the orchard’s end-of-summer bounty of sunflowers and wildflowers, which are harvested and sold in bunches, or available to pick your own, with 100% of proceeds donated to United Services Children and Family Programs, including the Child Guidance Clinic, Domestic Violence Program, Center for Autism, Parenting Education, Support Groups, Youth Service Bureau and Juvenile Review Board, and Crisis Intervention. Along with the flowers, enjoy free hay rides and balloon animals and face painting for the kids, along with the orchard’s usual assortment of “pick-your-own” activities, like apple picking.

The 16th Annual Irish Night, held Friday March 17, 2017 at The Mansion at Bald Hill in Woodstock, raised $10,000 for Children and Family Programs. The annual event features Irish fare, folk music and a silent auction and raffle. The event supports United Services Children and Family Programs, including the Child Guidance Clinic, Domestic Violence Program, Center for Autism, Parenting Education, Support Groups, Youth Services Bureau and Juvenile Review Board, and Crisis Intervention.
