Description:

United Services is seeking to hire Youth Peer Advocates. If you are between the ages of 16 – 24 and live in Ashford, Brooklyn, for Chaplin and have an interest in youth substance use prevention, advocacy in the community, and promoting mental health, we have a great opportunity for you!

The essential functions are to Participate and represent their Local Prevention Council (LPC) on the monthly Governor’s Prevention Partnership (GPP) Youth Advisory Board meetings and at least one sub-committee. Assist the coalition during each step of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) and participate in Coalition meetings. Perform other duties as specified by the Program Coordinator or Supervisor. Interact and engage peers in discussions around substance use. Assist in creating a media campaign for parents and peers.

Schedule:

5 Hours per week/ flexible

Minimum Requirements:
  • Is a student living in Ashford, Brooklyn or Chaplin between the ages of 16-24
  • Has an interest in youth substance use prevention, advocacy in the community, and promoting mental health
  • Displays effective communication and interpersonal skills with a willingness to talk to peers around substance abuse and misuse and engage in public speaking
  • Ability to work with community members and diverse populations.
